If anyone out there reads this blog, here’s your chance to let me know it and show your creativity! I need suggestions and help here.
I need an armoire. For clothes, and with shoes to be stored on the bottom of it, and it should be 36” wide give or take a few inches. It will be used as a primary closet for at least two years, so it needs to be sturdy, and I’d like it to close completely to keep the cat hair off my work clothes. They will sleep inside it if it doesn’t close. It should be full height so that my long dresses and stuff won’t get messed up.
There is a very nice one from Ikea that I’m tempted to buy, but I’d rather get used or come up with my own solution. It will go against a flat wall, so there are no corner options and there is no room for a “dressing alcove” (previous suggestions I’ve received). I do have one alcove in the room but it houses my “office” and already is full with desk, filing cabinet, and shelves. I’d like to keep the “office” space separated from the “bedroom” space, so there is basically just the one location available for the armoire/wardrobe solution.
I’m half tempted just to get a wardrobe box from some movers but that won’t last for two years and my cats will claw it to death. And besides, it’s not purdy. Simple and cheap are good but I don’t want my room to look like trash either.
I posted a “wanted” on freecycle and have been all over craig’s list, ebay and the like, and so far have had no luck. I don’t know if perhaps I can make something? Has anyone got any ideas?
Here is the $80 option I’m trying to resist buying:

Thanks so much for your help! I need to acquire/make whatever I’m going to use in the next two weeks because I’m getting a roommate (hopefully).

We had two of those (but in a darker color) in our last house and they worked really well. In fact, the person that purchased the house purchased those from us as well, which was good since they weigh an awful lot and I wasn't looking forward to moving them.
Thanks! I ended up going another route though - will post shortly.
